This renowned filmmaker signed one of the most acclaimed films of 2024. However, his name is not in nominations to the Oscars.
Each year, it is the same catchphrase: the award ceremonies that are responsible for rewarding the best of cinema in recent months sometimes make size oublis. The 2025 edition is no exception to the rule, since many Internet users and specialists have insurgent to see films or personalities snobbed by the Oscars. Among the appointments announced on January 23, several names are missing.
One of them is, however, that of the director who has signed one of the most acclaimed films of 2024. With 95% public opinion on Rotten Tomatoes and a note spectators of 4.4/5 on Allociné, C ‘was, however, one of the events of last year. The film is certainly cited in several categories, but its filmmaker has been unjustly forgotten.
Quebec director Denis Villeneuve nevertheless signed Dune, second partfollowing the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s work. Praised for his aesthetics and his sense of staging, the filmmaker to whom we also owe First contact Or Blade Runner 2049 was not cited for the Oscar for the best achievement, as it had not already been for the first episode. The science fiction feature was however appointed in technical categories, but also in the best film category.
The lack of appointment of Denis Villeneuve was pointed out by moviegoers, but also by Josh Brolin, who plays Gurney Halleck, the mentor of Paul Atreids, in both parts of Dune. The actor had previously announced in Variety that he ended his career if the director was not appointed to the Oscars. In a story on Instagram, the actor said: “Apparently, I’m going to stop playing … because Denis Villeneuve was not named. That’s how it works. It doesn’t sense.”
Anyway, that will not detract from Dune, second part to be one of the memorable films of this year 2024. Neither in Denis Villeneuve to continue working on the work of Franck Herbert. The director has already planned to sign the realization of “Messiah”, the third part of Dune In the cinema, scheduled for 2026.
