SNK settles in Singapore, new ambitions in Southeast Asia

Since the buyout of SNK by Saudi Arabia (via the Electronic Gaming Development Company, a subsidiary of MiSK, the foundation of Mohammed ben Salman) at 96%, the company which gave birth to NeoGeo in the 90s is doing well. So much so that we have just learned of the opening of a new office in Singapore, the place to be. VShis expansion in South-East Asia is part of the new ambitions of the Japanese firm which wishes to develop high quality games thanks to reinforced cooperation between the Japanese teams and Singapore. SNK Games Singapore is led by Hong Sing Tang and is part of SNK’s international vision to become a “Top 10 Global Publisher” over the next decade.

“As SNK Games Singapore begins its journey, the studio is positioned to contribute significantly to the global gaming landscape, leveraging Singapore’s dynamic economic environment and technological prowess”we can read in a press release, before adding that “The creation of this studio marks a crucial milestone in SNK’s commitment to delivering exceptional gaming experiences worldwide and driving innovation through international collaboration.”

Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Japanese video game industry consultancy Kantan Games, noted that SNK’s decision to open a dedicated development studio in Singapore is something of a rarity in the region. For now, the new office is likely aimed at finding new talent to help SNK develop its next games, as the firm looks to recapture its former hype, with the revival of many of its old licenses, not to mention that famous new NeoGeo console that we haven’t heard from since 2019…
