Sneaky death warning Watch out for carbon monoxide poisoning Colorless

The increasing use of stoves with the arrival of winter months brings with it the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Environmental Health teams affiliated with Tuşba District Health Directorate drew attention to the dangers of carbon monoxide gas during their home visits. The teams raised citizens’ awareness by emphasizing that this gas is colorless, odorless and difficult to detect.

During the visits, detailed information was shared about the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, prevention methods and safe use of stoves. Authorities reminded citizens of the issues that should be taken into consideration, especially when installing stoves, and asked citizens to take the necessary precautions when lighting stoves.

“POISONING MAY OCCUR SUDDENLY”

Tuşba District Health Director Dr. Semra Gümüş stated that, as a team, they carry out informative activities against carbon monoxide poisoning every winter. Dr. stated that they provide training especially in rural neighborhoods where stoves are used extensively. Gümüş said, “Poisoning occurs when carbon monoxide gas is released into the environment in stoves that do not burn well in windy weather during the winter months. This carbon monoxide, called the silent killer; Since it is a colorless and odorless gas, poisoning can occur suddenly.

Symptoms of poisoning are dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, weakness and drowsiness. If our citizens see these symptoms in a closed environment with a burning stove, they should immediately call 112, ventilate the environment and go outdoors. “We will continue our work as a team to prevent these deaths in places where stoves burn as much as we can,” he said.
