SNCF strike traffic disrupted this Thursday on the TER and

SNCF STRIKE. The forecasts for the strike for Thursday, November 21, 2024 have been made. Here are the disruptions announced in detail on TGV, Intercités, TER and RER trains.

[Mis à jour le 19 novembre 2024 à 18h00] The SNCF unions called for a strike this Thursday, November 21 to denounce the dismantling of Fret SNCF and the opening to competition. This Tuesday, traffic forecasts were announced by SNCF Voyageurs and the Transilien website for the Île-de-France region. If on the TGV side, there is not too much concern with traffic announced as “almost normal” by the railway company, disruptions are however to be expected on “on certain regional lines”: the TER as well as the RER and Transilien lines in the Paris region.

This day of strike to denounce a “strategy of social dumping and unlimited financial profitability” on the part of the management of the railway company is announced as an “ultimatum” before a potential movement renewable every 24 hours envisaged from Wednesday December 11, 2024, i.e. 10 days before the start of the end-of-year holidays. The consequences for SNCF users could be considerable. If the strike is continued after December 11, it could disrupt planned journeys during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The strike of November 21, 2024 affects part of the TER, Transiliens and RER of the SNCF. On the TGV side, SNCF Voyageurs announces almost normal traffic. Here are the disruptions in detail from this day of strike:

  • TER disturbances : disruptions are announced “on certain regional lines” this Thursday, November 21.
  • Intercity Disturbances : no disruptions this Thursday, November 21, 2024.
  • TGV disruptions : almost normal traffic this Thursday, November 21, 2024.
  • RER disruptions : normal to almost normal service on the RER A, 1 train out of 2 on average on the RER B (1 train out of 2 north from Gare du Nord, 3 trains out of 4 south from Châtelet-les-Halles), 2 trains out of 3 on average on the RER C, 1 out of 3 trains on average on the RER D and 3 out of 4 trains on average on the RER E.
  • Transilien disruptions : normal to almost normal service on lines K, L and P; 2 trains out of 3 on average on lines J and U; 1 train in 2 on average on lines H and N and 1 train in 3 on average on line R.

The strike on Thursday, November 21, 2024 is taking place from Wednesday November 20 at 7 p.m. to Friday November 22 at 8 a.m.. Traffic will therefore return to normal on Friday, November 22.

In December, users of main lines (TGV, Intercités), medium lines (TER) as well as smaller lines on the Île-de-France network (Transilien and RER managed by SNCF) could expect strong disruptions from December 11 from 7 p.m., but we do not know for how long.

How do I know if my train is canceled due to the SNCF strike?

Canceled TGV and Intercités travelers receive information via e-mail or SMS between 24 and 48 hours in advance (provided they have provided their contact details when booking). On the other hand, TER users without connections do not receive SMS messages. It is advisable to verify the information by providing train number the day before and just before departure on the SNCF site.

SNCF users can quickly check the traffic situation and find out if a particular train has been canceled or if it is leaving late. For information concerning TGVs, the telephone number made available is 0 805 90 36 35. To follow the traffic of all major or medium lines (TGV, Intercités, TER), go to this page of the SNCF. For information on the Transilien or RER in the Paris suburbs, you must call 0 805 90 36 35 or consult the dedicated platform.
