Snapchat offers free dark mode option to Android users

Snapchat removed Paywall to offer the dark mode feature that Android users have been requesting for a long time.

One of the best inventions of mankind lately is dark mode. For years, we’ve been wandering (literally) in the dark, exposing our pupils to brightly lit backgrounds. Things changed in 2016 with Microsoft’s Windows 10 update. Then in 2018, Apple brought a similar feature in macOS Mojave and introduced both iOS and Android dark modes in 2019.

Removes Snapchat’s dark mode Paywall for Android users

Many mobile apps quickly joined the trend and started offering dark modes that were easy on the eyes, but not all of them were successful. For example, Snapchat let it down. While iOS users can use it for free, the option to switch to dark mode for Android users is hidden behind a paywall. But now this is changing.

Android users have been making exactly this demand for years. So why only Android users? Because Snapchat iOS users have been using this feature for free since 2021. There were several alternative ways to switch Snapchat to dark mode on Android, but it was necessary to resort to methods such as forcing the system’s darker color scheme in various applications. Fortunately, you will no longer need them.

Snapchat’s decision to remove the Android paywall was spotted by developer Shubham. The screenshot post is as follows:

As seen in the screenshot shared post, there is an option to choose between modes titled “Always light theme” and “Always dark”. To activate the dark mode, you need to tap on the Settings menu, then the application view.

One-Click Comfort

With this long-awaited update, users will be able to easily switch to dark mode by clicking the “Application Appearance” option from the settings menu.

This innovation will allow users to have a more comfortable experience. Dark mode stands out as a feature developed to reduce eye strain and make nighttime use more enjoyable. Snapchat’s removal of this paywall by meeting the demands of Android users has been positively received by a wide user base.
