An alarm has gone out from the final repository in Forsmark.
– There has been a fire alarm at the final repository for medium-level waste. The fire brigade is on site and currently searching the facility and all personnel have been evacuated to a safe place, says Jacob Wiberg Engström, press secretary at Swedish Nuclear Fuel Management.
The emergency services have been alerted to the scene and the call must not be connected to the nuclear power plant that is nearby. According to P4 Uppland, there should be smoke coming from the final repository.
Whether the fire is down in the rock room or in an office building is currently unknown.
– The fire brigade is investigating it now, so it is something we will have to come back to later, says Jacob Wiberg Engström.
Several people are stuck in smoke-filled tunnels underground at the final repository in Forsmark, waiting for the tunnels to be ventilated, according to the radio channel. There should be no danger to people’s health.
It is still unclear what caused the smoke development.
