“It’s not ideal weather for fireworks in Götaland and Svealand,” says SMHI’s meteorologist Linnea Rehn Wittskog.
SMHI advances the yellow warning for snowfall in Dalsland and in northern Västergötland.
— The snowfall moves in from the southwest and hits northern Bohuslän and northern Västergötland first.
The yellow warnings for snowfall are issued in southern Svealand and northern Götaland. Between 5 and 15 centimeters of snow may fall in the area, but during the evening the snowfall may change to rain.
“At 12 o’clock the snowfall looks like it has changed to rain in all of Götaland, while it is still snowing in Svealand,” says Rehn Wittskog.
“Leave the car”
Where the snowfall changes to rain, there is a risk of icy conditions. SMHI urges you to take it carefully and adjust your speed according to the road conditions.
— In the areas where we have issued warnings, it is best to leave the car standing if possible. Ice floes are not always visible so think wisely.
In the northern parts of the country the weather will be clearer and in the southern parts it will be windy during the night with some strong gusts of wind.
Flood risk in Western Sweden
New Year’s Day begins with the risk of flooding in parts of Western Sweden. A yellow warning is issued in Västra Götaland County, Halland County, Jönköping County, Kronoberg County.
“In connection with the rainfall area that moves in, there will be large amounts,” says Linnea Rehn Wittskog.
