SMHI has issued yellow warnings for torrential rain and thunder in western Sweden.
There is a risk of flooding, fire and power outages.
– This warm air we have contains a lot of energy, that’s why there are storms like this, says Linda Eriksson, meteorologist at TV4.
It will be a wet and bright Saturday in several parts of the country.
Last Thursday, SMHI failed to warn of an extensive rainstorm in Skåne, which suddenly stood in water, but this time the authority is clear: Up to 40 millimeters of rain can fall locally.
The rainfall warning applies from Bohuslän to Vänern and up to just south of Östersund.
On its website, SMHI writes that there is “a risk that, for example, basements, stormwater systems, roads and viaducts will be flooded”, and that traffic may be slower.

Risk of fires and power outages
Further south, from Uddevalla and Skövde to Trelleborg and Karlshamn, there is a warning of thunderstorms. There is also a risk of flooding here. SMHI also writes that it can start to burn after a lightning strike and that the electricity supply can be disrupted.
It is also expected to be quite windy in some places.
– They have separated the warning areas because what is expected to have the most consequences in southern Sweden is the thunder, and further north it is the rain. But there will be torrential rain and thunder in both areas, says Linda Eriksson, meteorologist at TV4.
“The uncertainty is great in connection with thunderstorms, the exact location and time of the thunderstorm is difficult to assess. There are also large local variations in the amounts of rain,” writes SMHI in a comment.
The warnings apply from after lunch until late this evening.
