It is sports holiday week for many in the country and for people in the mountains, the last few days can be problematic.
During Friday, strong to very strong wind is expected in combination with frequent snow showers.
SMHI issues an orange warning on Kalffjällen, in parts of the Jämtlands and Härjedalsfjällen. A yellow warning has also been issued for strong winds in large parts of southern Norrland – a warning that thus affects several popular ski resorts.
– This can have major consequences, not least because you may have difficulty seeing exactly where you end up and where you are going, but it can also mean that rescue operations can take significantly longer than they would otherwise, says TV4: s meteorologist Lovisa Svanberg.
Strong advice
SMHI strongly discourages people from going out on the mountain and warns that it will be very difficult to move in the area, to travel and anchor tents, as well as very difficult to orientate yourself due to greatly reduced visibility.
TV4 Nyheterna has been in contact with Skistar, which has facilities in Åre and Vemdalen, among others. Skistar says that they will open and close lifts continuously during the day based on how the weather has changed.
– It is important that you stick to groomed and open slopes and stay up-to-date if you are in, for example, Åre or Vemdalen and are going out skiing, says Petra Hallebrant, communications manager at Skistar.
SMHI also urges skiers to think before heading out on the slopes.
