On Thursday, the extreme heat came to Sweden – for real.

In northeastern Götaland and southern Svealand, it was long predicted that the temperature could exceed the Swedish heat record of 38.0 degrees, which was measured twice, in Ultuna in 1933 and in Målilla in 1947, but the day was not really that hot.

In Målilla, 37.2 degrees were finally measured – not only the highest of the year, but the highest temperature in Sweden in over 70 years.

However, the extreme heat that has risen from southern Europe will be short-lived. Already on Friday, the weather changes and in some places SMHI is now warning of torrential rain, when large amounts can fall in a short time, which can cause flooding.
