See examples of how the weather warnings change in the clip above.
Since 2021, SMHI has a new system for weather warnings where the assessed impact of the weather is what determines whether a warning should be issued. Warnings are issued at yellow, orange and red levels.
– For example, we take into account what time of day it is, if there is rush hour traffic or if a major event is taking place nearby, says Lisa Lind at SMHI.
Clarifies the weather warnings
In order to make it easier to understand what a warning can mean and what to think about before a storm, SMHI invests in clarifying the weather warnings by making concrete what consequences the storm can have.
– We want to make it easier for people to protect themselves and avoid consequences and damage, says Lisa Lind.
