SMHI orange warning – heavy snowfall and strong winds

Warm clothes are required for those who want to go out and watch fireworks around Lake Vättern this evening. Especially west of Lake Vättern, the snowfall is expected to increase during the night to Monday and be combined with strong gusts of wind.

– We have an orange warning west of Vättern where there will be a lot of snow, says Max Schildt.

Heavy snowfall and strong wind

Heavy snowfall and strong winds are also expected in Dalsland during New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. During New Year’s Day, there will be even heavier snowfall with up to 50 centimeters in places and strong winds. Smhi warns of very limited access on roads, especially in open landscapes.

Smhi also warns of strong wind and occasional snowfall in the southern Jämtlandsfjällen. Unaccustomed visitors are advised not to go out on the mountain due to reduced visibility and the risk of frostbite when it can blow up to 21 meters per second.

That’s how hot it will be on New Year’s Eve

In northern Norrland, it will be really chilly on New Year’s Eve with temperatures down to minus 20 degrees.

In Skåne, among other places, it will rain at 12 o’clock, but next week it is expected to be below zero in southern Sweden as well.

“Overall, it will be a gray new year in most parts of the country,” says Max Schildt.
