SMHI issues several warnings extreme temperatures may occur

Flooding in southern Sweden

The areas from Halland and Västergötland to northwestern Skåne are affected by large amounts of rain. SMHI warns that there may be flooding along streams and rivers and other vulnerable areas. From Örkelljunga in northern Scania to Borås and Ulricehamn in the north, intense rain is expected that could cause flooding.

Warning for traffic problems

Snowfall and cold are expected in Götaland. In parts of Västergötland, Bohuslän, Dalsland and Värmland there can be up to 15 centimeters of snow. This can lead to problems in traffic, risk of accidents and stationary vehicles on the roads.

From the afternoon of New Year’s Day until the night of Thursday, there will be a snow storm in large parts of northern Götaland. SMHI warns of around 7-15 centimeters of snow in some areas. There may also be sleet, which can worsen traffic conditions and pose a risk of accidents.

Extreme temperatures can occur here

The storm will also be felt in Stockholm, Uppland and Gästrikland, with a snowfall moving eastwards and expected to cause major traffic disruptions. During New Year’s Day, temperatures vary, and it is expected to be around 6 and 7 plus degrees in Götaland and between 0 and 11 minus degrees in Svealand.

It will be very cold between Jämtland and Lapland, where the temperature can drop to minus 22 degrees.
