The Smash cake trend is gaining more and more fans (including among stars) to celebrate baby’s first birthday.

On social networks, it’s the race for likes. Everyone is looking to find a new way to create content that will appeal to the general public and become trendy. For some time now, a trend has been attracting more and more young parents on platforms: “smash cake”. This fun way of celebrate a baby’s first birthday attracted the attention of many people, so much so that even celebrities and influencers indulged in it, such as Gigi Hadid, Nabilla Vergara, or even Aïda Hämmerli (Large families, life in XXL).

What is the Smash cake trend?

A child’s first birthday is an important moment. It is not surprising that parents want to mark the occasion, and some therefore turn to “Smash Cake” to create adorable photos. This trend was created by and for social networks, and consists of dressing Baby in his best outfit and placing him in front of a little richly decorated birthday cake. Then, we watch (or encourage) him to grab the cake with both hands to destroy it, hence the term smash cake, which literally means “crush the cake”.

While the child happily smears himself with icing and pecks at the sponge cake, a camera shoots him. The result is generally funny and, above all, adorable photos of a toddler with cream up to his ears. These are often shared by happy parents on platforms, or at least slipped into a photo album.

Smash the cake: no waste!

We see you coming: taking a photo of baby crushing a cake and getting it everywhere is certainly very cute, but it’s a bit of a waste, right? Well yes, especially when you know that some parents make a cake on purpose, and then throw it away after the photo shoot. Obviously, we strongly advise you not to do this. Is the cake now crumbled? Don’t throw it away, eat it like this. After all, the taste remains the same! If you’re worried that the cake is too bad to eat, go smaller and get a muffin or cupcake specially made for baby.
