Small studios will never be able to beat CoD and Battlefield because you play too much

With The Finals and BattleBit, two shooters that had a lot of potential are currently falling apart, and the endless grinding of us gamers is to blame.

There are always games that try to outdo Call of Duty, Battlefield and the like – sometimes with a similar game principle, sometimes with completely new ideas. So far, all of these players have failed and that will not change any time soon if we gamers do not change.

The hard grind kills games from small studios

The Finals, Shatterline, Hired Ops and BattleBit are not all bad games, they just have too little content for their community. New content is usually only available in new seasons, which are released every few months.

However, players grind through the old content in a short time and then turn their back on the game. After that, it takes too long until the next update appears. But that’s understandable because a small studio can’t spawn new maps, modes or heroes; they have to design them first and that takes time.

When the new content is finally available, a large proportion of players will be gone and they won’t return in large numbers. Call of Duty has this problem too, but for a maximum of 12 months.

The release of a new spin-off is like a reboot for CoD every year, with players who turned down the previous installment becoming paying customers again.

As long as we gamers grind every game to death at release and then complain about a lack of content after three weeks, no developer will be able to shake the throne of Activision or EA.

Even in 2024, there are few games from relatively small studios among the most successful shooters. What is particularly striking is that even popular titles such as “Deep Rock Galactic”, “GTFO” or “Payday 2” hardly have any players anymore, despite good gameplay. Nevertheless, MeinMMO editor Dariusz considers them to be among the 25 best shooters of 2024.
