The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was up 0.4 percent at local lunchtime.
The composite index in Shanghai and Shenzhen both traded sideways but with a negative trend.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange in Japan, the Nikkei 225 index had retreated 0.4 percent just before lunch and the broader Topix index was unchanged but with minimal movement down.
