Conspiracy-like gatherings, launches of new movements, calls for the urgent organization of a congress, the Socialist Party is animating the return to politics this fall. Emerging stronger from the early legislative elections, with now 66 deputies, the PS is stirring up desires and making ambitions soar.
They never leave each other: Carole Delga, François Hollande, Bernard Cazeneuve, Raphaël Glucksmann, Karim Bouamrane have lunches and public meetings. Once in Bram, in the stronghold of the president of the Occitanie region, another at the Bauer stadium at the mayor of Saint-Ouen, or even in La Réole, in Gironde, for the return to school days of the former head of file PS Public square at the Europeans. What do they have in common? Wanting to put social democracy back at the center of the “rose party” strategy. “And why not”consider one of them, “create a great common movement”likely to attract “the left-wing Macronists”. But, to succeed, everyone agrees on the need to distance itself from LFI, taking as a model that of the PS with the Communist Party at the end of the 1970s, which ultimately led to the victory of François Mitterrand in the presidential election.
Olivier Faure, a target on his back
But before putting social democracy back at the heart of the project, they must get rid of Olivier Faure. “A submissive to the Insoumis”, “under the boot of Jean-Luc Mélenchon” rail the anti-Faure. But the 1st secretary has his results for the year 2024 on his side: almost 14% in the European elections, before doubling the number of PS deputies in the Assembly thanks to the New Popular Front. The conspirators must therefore be clever to get rid of them. No question of campaigning on an exit from the union of the left which they had not wanted. It’s also complicated to convince activists to rally behind currents who have spent their time vilifying the management’s strategy. “We absolutely must not have a congress against Faure”estimates one of the masterminds of the putsch, who is pushing for a consensual candidate.
Boris Vallaud, solution and threat?
This ideal candidate could be Boris Vallaud, the current president of the socialist group in the Assembly. He has the advantage of having always followed the line of management, while displaying a certain independence, and he is now displaying his ambitions, after having procrastinated for a long time. He publishes a book this week in which he argues for a new path. The only problem is that these ambitions may not stop at the PS and that may be a big problem, because the 2027 presidential election is also the objective of Delga, Glucksmann, Cazeneuve, Bouamrane, and even Hollande. . Result, and as the slogan says: this risks being “warmer than the climate”
