With Vampire Survivors, the small indie developer poncle had a real surprise hit on Steam, and the title was in Early Access until the very end. Now the roguelite is celebrating its official release and bringing new content with the 1.0 update.

What game is it? Vampire Survivors is a popular indie game on Steam. The Roguelite goes for a retro style and costs less than 5 €. Nevertheless, it can inspire numerous players.

Out of a total of 126,000 reviews, a strong 98% are positive (via Steam). But the current player numbers are also very solid with almost 21,600 players active at the same time (as of October 21, 11:30 a.m. via SteamCharts).

When is the official release? Vampire Survivors was officially released on October 20, 2022 and brought with it the 1.0 update. Previously, the title had been available in Early Access since December 17, 2021.

Retro graphics meet roguelite

What is the game about? Vampire Survivors offers more than pixelated graphics. The title describes itself as a gothic horror game with roguelite elements.

You take on one of the different characters, fight in an open space against monsters approaching from everywhere and try to survive for 30 minutes. You collect experience points and level up your character, which you control with the WASD keys.

With each new attempt, you can give your character different items, which all have a different effect. This increases the replay value of the game as it allows you to complete a map in different ways.

New modes and Twitch integration

What does the new update bring? The new Vampire Survivors 1.0 update brings not only the official release but also some new content. In addition to 4 new achievements and new skins, this also includes a new weapon, a new event stage, Twitch integration and 2 new modes: the inverse mode and the endless mode.

The inverse mode: On Steam, poncle provides the following information about the inverse mode:

  • The layout of the stages is upside down (can be disabled in the options), and there are minor visual changes depending on the stage.
  • Gold gains are increased by 200%. There is a 20% luck bonus.
  • Enemies start with +200% maximum health.
  • Enemies gain 5% maximum health every minute and 1% movement speed every 2 minutes
  • The trader offers the following products: Skip, Banish and Reroll as well as 1 additional Arcana.

    • The endless mode: On Steam, poncle provides the following information about the endless mode:

  • The Reaper will not spawn at the last minute.
  • When the last minute of a stage is reached, the enemy waves start again at minute 0, completing a “cycle”.
  • Enemies gain 100% of their maximum base health per cycle.
  • Frequency and number of enemies spawning per cycle is increased by 50%.
  • Enemies deal 25% more damage per cycle. The player’s maximum damage cap is reduced by 1 per cycle.
  • The vendor respawns every cycle and sells “+1 revive” instead of golden eggs.

    Twitch chat may affect game play

    The Twitch integration: Another exciting new feature that appeared with the update is the so-called Twitch integration. A feature that should be of particular interest to you if you often watch streams on Twitch or stream yourself.

    With Twitch integration, a streamer’s chat can make decisions for them and even trigger special in-game events. Twitch integration can be enabled in settings.
