A small earthquake was recorded near Corunna Thursday morning, Earthquakes Canada says.

The 2.5-magnitude tremor happened at 7:19 am EDT three kilometers northwest of Corunna at a depth of five kilometers in the ground, the Natural Resources Canada agency said.

That’s “not very big,” said Allison Bent, an agency seismologist.
“If you’re close to it you would feel it, but you wouldn’t expect it to be felt very far away,” she said. “(2.5-magnitude quakes are) much too small to be damaged – just enough to remind us that earthquakes happen.”
“Small earthquakes happen almost anywhere. The big ones usually happen in very specific places that are more active in general,” Bent added.
Southwestern Ontario gets “relatively few” earthquakes, she said. “The West Coast of Canada is by far the most active region.”
