Caroline Waldheim is employed as sustainability manager at the association and is nominated as a candidate for the position of chairman of the Swedish Football Association by the Jämtland/Härjedalen and Småland districts.
When the election committee presented former Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt as its main candidate, Waldheim remained as nominated and if she is at the federal meeting on March 25, she will continue to have the support of the Smålands district.
“Fantastic name”
– We still stand by that. We will recommend her, says Christer Gustafsson, chairman of Småland’s football association, to TT.
– We will have a board meeting after February 15 and decide exactly how to proceed, but as I judge it, we will stick to it, he continues.
What do you say about the election committee’s main candidate Fredrik Reinfeldt?
– I have no particular comments on that. It’s a fantastically good name. That a former prime minister is interested in such an assignment is good for football, says Gustafsson.
The former Moderat leader Reinfeldt has not given any interviews since it became known that he is running for the post of chairman after being nominated by the Allsvenskan club Brommapojkarna.
However, those entitled to vote at the federal meeting have been able to take part in a 45-minute long digital meeting with Reinfeldt.
The districts have the most votes
Did you figure out what he wants to do in football?
– Broadly speaking, I guess I got it, says Christer Gustafsson.
It is the country’s 24 districts and the elite clubs in the two highest leagues on the women’s and men’s sides that are entitled to vote at the confederation meeting. The districts collect the most votes – a total of 172 votes. In addition to three votes per district, 100 additional votes are distributed proportionally according to how many clubs the districts have. For example, Stockholm’s football association is the largest and has 15 extra votes. Skåne has twelve extra votes.
Småland’s football association has a total of twelve votes at the association meeting.
