The government wants to reduce the wolf population as it increases. According to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), however, Minister of Rural Affairs Anna-Caren Sätherberg (S) is wrong about the number of wolves increasing every year.
-Until 2014, there was an increasing trend, of course, but since then it has leveled off. In the last five years, the trend has been fairly stable, says Jens Frank, who is responsible for statistics at SLU, to SVT Nyheter.
The government has commissioned the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency to investigate how the number of wolves can be reduced to between 170 and 270 from today’s around 400.
