On Friday, the Slovenian military began taking down a barbed wire fence on the border with Croatia. Slovenia is now changing its refugee policy and focusing on human rights and solidarity, according to Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar, and she says the fence has led to many tragedies and deaths.
The fence, which stretches 200 kilometers along the Slovenian-Croatian border, was set up during the refugee wave in 2015. Authorities estimate that it will be around five months before the fence is completely dismantled.
