Following Spain, Ireland and Norway, Slovenia officially recognized the state of Palestine. In the voting held in Slovenia’s 90-seat parliament, the decree on the recognition of the Palestinian state was approved with 52 yes votes. The remaining MPs did not participate in the voting.
STATEMENT FROM THE PRIME MINISTER
Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, in his statement before the vote, said, “We started talking with our allies about the recognition of Palestine in February of this year. Our assessment at that time was that it is not yet time. We Slovenians have been dreaming of this right for 1000 years. We achieved it 33 years ago. What “Unfortunately, the Palestinian nation has not yet achieved this right,” he said.
More than 140 countries, more than two-thirds of the United Nations, recognize the state of Palestine.
