As a teenager, Slimane went through difficult times. He was particularly hurt by remarks about his physique and more particularly about the gynecomastia from which he suffered.
It’s on the show As an aside, broadcast on October 18 on Canal +, that Slimane confides in about his past. Rather plump as a teenager, he was traumatized by certain remarks about his physique. “And this weight thing is something that follows me and will follow me until, I think, very, very old. It’s something that traumatized me. Child, it was complicated for me“, explained the singer who also suffered from gynecomastia. “With my long eyelashes and my beginnings of breasts, I looked like a girl. I have a memory at the swimming pool, where one day, a tall 20 or 22 year old said to me: ‘But this is not the girls’ locker room here’ “.
What is gynecomastia?
This pathology affects the mammary gland in men and corresponds to too large a chest on one side (unilateral gynecomastia) or both (bilateral gynecomastia). It can be caused by enlargement of the mammary gland itself or by excess fat seeping around it.
What are the causes of gynecomastia?
In the first case, the abnormally developed mammary gland will be identifiable by the doctor due to its firm consistency on palpation.
In the second case, it is fat that is responsible for this “chest”, due to obesity.
After having diagnosed the pathology, a biological assessment will be carried out in order to know if it is a question of a hormonal disorder or a taking of medication which is at the origin of the gynecomastia and to propose a treatment to the patient.
In the event of drug failure or if the gynecomastia is idiopathic, ie it has an unknown origin, surgery may be considered. This will either be corrective surgery to remove the excess gland or suction surgery to remove the fat around the gland. Very often the two gestures are combined. The surgeon then operates to remove the gland and suck the fat too, to remove this “false chest”.
