Last week, Haldimand council approved its 2022 water and wastewater budget with a 2.1-per-cent rate increase. This will increase the average monthly bill by $1.73, the municipality said in a news release.
“Haldimand’s water and wastewater rates remain below the provincial average due to ongoing strategic planning efforts and diligent asset management practices,” the news release says. “In the long-term, rates are expected to remain stable due to a comprehensive, long-term infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation schedule and a projected increase in user growth.”
Approval of the rate-supported budget is the first major step of Haldimand’s budget process for 2022.
Haldimand council will consider its 2022 tax-supported capital budget in early March. The county’s tax-supported operating budget is on council’s agenda for the end of March. After that, Haldimand will notify residents about the consequent impact on their property taxes.
How the public might engage with these deliberations remains to be seen.
“Due to the ever-changing COVID-19 situation, it has not yet been determined whether the meetings will be hosted in-person or virtually,” Haldimand County says.
