During the holidays, many people go on really long trips with their motorhomes, which can mean early mornings, late nights and many hours on the road.
In these situations, it can be tempting to let passengers lie down and rest or sleep in one of the camper’s beds. Likewise, letting one of the passengers cook in the kitchenette.
The only question is whether this is legal or not.

No rules specifically for motorhomes
There are no rules that specifically concern where you can be while traveling in a motor home, but there are, on the other hand, general rules in the traffic regulation that govern this.
The basic rule in the traffic regulation is that you may not bring a number of passengers which means that danger may arise. The passengers must also not be placed in a way that could cause danger.
The camper’s beds can hardly be claimed to be a placement of passengers where danger cannot arise.

Passengers must sit in place with a seat belt
In addition, the law states that passengers must use seats equipped with seat belts if such are available, and that they must then use the seat belt.
If there are no available seats with a seat belt, you should, if possible, choose a seat where you sit with your back to the direction of travel.
Information on how many passengers a mobile home is approved for can be found in the registration certificate.

Not a good idea
Even if it had been legal to sleep in the camper’s beds or otherwise use the living area of the camper while traveling, this would not have been a very good idea.
If you want to rest or sleep in the motorhome while traveling, it is therefore better to do this in one of the dedicated seats equipped with seat belts, rather than in one of the beds.
