Sleep: what science says – Le dossier de L’Express

Sleep what science says Le dossier de LExpress

Where did our restful nights go? According to the Coviprev barometer published by Public Health France, 71% of French people complain of sleeping poorly, ten points more than in 2020. Between the health crisis which has upset our habits and our rhythms of life, and the international context particularly anxiety, it must be said that there is enough to have troubled sleep. Specialists are now calling for a general public campaign to remind people of the basic rules of sleep hygiene, which they believe could already help many of us. In the meantime, they have detailed them for L’Express, because they ultimately turn out to be quite poorly known. For “real” insomniacs, those in whom sleep has fled for a long time, these rules often prove insufficient. But two innovations should soon bring them relief. First, the development of “behavioral and cognitive therapy” applications, which can make this treatment recognized as effective by scientists accessible to everyone. And above all, a new sleeping pill, potentially revolutionary, which should arrive in France in 2024. A real breakthrough that we owe to French people, even if they have not lived in France for a long time: the researcher Emmanuel Mignot, professor at Stanford in the United States, as well as Martine and Jean-Paul Clozel, founders of a biotech based in Switzerland. L’Express makes you discover their history.
