Skylights for births are stolen at Mälar Hospital

Several skylights have mysteriously disappeared from Mälar Hospital.
Now the hospital is forced to lock the lights in the ceiling so that no more are stolen.
– Since we started with this, we’ve probably had to replace ten lamps, roughly, says Katarina Söderström Nilsson, unit manager of the maternity department.

The sky lamps, which illuminate the room like a night sky, are used during childbirth and are supposed to create security and calm for the one giving birth.

Mälarsjukhuset is the first in the country to use the lights. And they have proved popular, so much so that several have disappeared from the hospital without a trace, which Ekuriren reported on.

– Since we started with this, we’ve probably had to replace ten lamps, roughly, says Katarina Söderström Nilsson, unit manager of the maternity department.

“Boring”

Now the hospital has had to buy in several new lamps, for SEK 800 each.

– It’s sad when it can’t be left alone, she tells the newspaper.

The hospital has not reported the thefts to the police, but has now taken measures to stop the thefts.

Chain the lights

The plan is for the lights to be chained to the ceiling with a padlock.

– We try to create peace and harmony in the rooms for those giving birth and then you should think that you want to make sure that it stays in the room for the next one.
