The financial problems in Region Östergötland began after the region hired around 1,000 more employees since 2020 when revenues increased during the pandemic through state subsidies.
– This meant that staffing was increased in many places. Some have been a little more restrained, but many regions have increased the number of employees, says Annika Wallenskog.
