Skip the photos at Highway 401 crash scenes: OPP

Don’t take photos or videos of crashes, especially in live traffic, provincial police emergency after a tractor-trailer rolled on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent Thursday.

Emergency crews were called to the single-truck crash about 6 am, Elgin OPP said.

Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the truck briefly entered the center median and rolled on the road, temporarily blocking eastbound traffic between Queen’s Line and Bloomfield Road, Const. Brett Phair posted on X, formerly Twitter.

People were slowing down and even stopping in live lanes (of traffic) to grab photographs,” he said.

Motorists on both sides of the highway should slow and proceed with caution when passing a crash scene. he said. “But, certainly do not stop in a live lane of traffic. . . The last thing we need is another collision.”
