Skiing star Ebba Andersson wins the Jerring Prize in 2024

Ebba Andersson wins the Jerring Prize for 2023’s best sporting performance.
– It shows what a special place cross-country skiing has in the hearts of the Swedish people. I had a hard time believing it would reach Armand’s height. Thanks to everyone who voted, says the skiing star when she is reached by the news.

Radiosport’s prize is voted for by the Swedish people. The fight was down to the last between ski star Ebba Andersson and pole vault star Armand Duplantis.

It is the first time that Ebba Andersson takes home the Jerring prize at the Sports Gala and becomes the first skier besides Charlotte Kalla to take home the award. She was not nominated for female athlete of the year at the gala but was awarded when the people had their say.

Wasn’t there

It was Prince Carl-Philip who, after a long speech, announced the winner.

– I don’t know if I expected to win this, says Ebba Andersson when she learns the news from her hotel room in Switzerland.

Ebba Andersson was not present during the Sports Gala, as she is in the middle of the competition season, and therefore could not receive the award on stage. With that, she gave her acceptance speech via link.

Ebba Andersson won two golds and two bronzes during the Ski World Championships in Planica in Slovenia.

Duplantis and Sjöström winners

A total of eight prizes were awarded at the Sports Gala. Female athlete of the year went to swimming star Sarah Sjöström and male athlete of the year was awarded to pole vaulter Armand Duplantis.

The coach of the Swedish national biathlon team, Johannes Lucas, won the award for leader of the year. It was handed out by Sven-Göran “Svennis” Eriksson, who was highly praised.
