He is Sweden’s best slalom skier of all time.
Since last year, Ingemar Stenmark has been busy with a new sport – and is ready for a new competition this weekend.
– Looking forward to it, he says.
Ingemar Stenmark is undoubtedly one of our greatest sports stars of all time. When the ski king rode important races during his career, all of Sweden stopped to watch as the legend flew down the hill.
The new career
The Swede also has a track record that few can match. There are both Olympic gold and WC gold, but above all a whopping 86 World Cup victories. After his career, Ingemar Stenmark has appeared in various television programs, and won the title in both “Master of Masters” and “Let’s dance”
He has reached the age of 66, but he is still active. Last summer it became clear that the ski icon is embarking on a completely new venture – as a racing driver. Among other things, Ingemar Stenmark competed in the Race of Champions earlier this year, and now the legend is ready for a new competition.
“Not so important”
This weekend, the Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp starts, and Ingemar Stenmark is one of the competitors. The 66-year-old tells P4 Jönköping that he is looking forward to it all, and was there on Friday to try out the competition track.
– It’s a great course. Fantastic. Just being able to drive on such a track is great fun, says Ingemar Stenmark.
In the past, Ingemark Stenmark was unstoppable in the slalom hill – but when it comes to motor sports, the Swede is a little more humble when he shares his expectations of his own performance.
– For my part, I will try to improve the lap times. Then how it goes over it is not that important, he says.
