It was at a competition in Canada in January that Sandra Näslund hurt her knee after a landing. She withdrew from the competition and was subsequently examined in Stockholm where an injury was found.
She underwent surgery soon after, and then told SVT Sport that she hoped to be back for the World Cup finals in Idre – which are now being held this weekend.
“Stupid to risk anything”
But it won’t be like that. Today, she decided to get over the competitions, and instead aim for next season.
– I saw the doctor at the end of February, and then he thought it was unnecessary to risk anything if it wasn’t going to be 100% good. It’s not that far after the surgery, and I’ve missed so much of the season anyway, so it’s perhaps a bit stupid to risk anything, she tells SVT Sport.
How does it feel to miss this weekend’s competitions?
– It is clear that it is boring. It will be tough to be in Idre and not be able to drive. But it is what it is. It’s just a matter of looking ahead.
Näslund still hasn’t skied after the operation, but hopes to take that step soon.
– Hopefully there will be some skiing this spring. But the focus will be on building myself up for next season to be 100 percent ready then and get good training during the summer, she says.
