Shotgun shooter Eetu Kallioinen finished second in the World Shooting Championships held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Finnish shooter made it to the top two of the final, but the victory was ultimately taken by Greece’s Efthimios Mitas.
Finnish shotgun shooter Eetu Kallioinen took second place in the World Shooting Championships held in Baku.
The Finnish shooter advanced from the group of six shooters to the last stage of the final, where the championship was decided by a showdown between two shooters. The 25-year-old Finnish shooter was confronted by a 38-year-old Greek Efthimios Mitaswho shot the world champion by only one disc.
Kallioinen shot one miss in his last four rounds. The number of pucks shot by the Finn in the final was no less than 55, but the Greek managed a clean performance in the last round with a total score of 56.
After the competition, Kallioinen had mixed feelings.
– I am happy, but at the same time sad, because the championship was so close, Kallioinen told the competition organizer in an interview.
During the competition, Kallioinen saw his chance even for the championship, but missed shots at crucial moments watered down the dreams of the young Finnish shooter.
In addition to the World Championship silver, Kallioinen earned Finland a place in skeet shooting at next summer’s Paris Olympics with his place in the final.
Egypt finished third in the final Azmy Mehelba (46 points), fourth in the United States Vincent Hancock (37), Denmark’s fifth Jesper Hansen (26) and Norway’s sixth Erik Watndal (15).
