Achievements from the sports year 2023 were recognized during the Monday evening. The sports gala ended in the usual order with the presentation of the winner of the honorable Jerring Prize. In advance, there were 14 candidates, which were then narrowed down to eight and towards the end – three.
Into the last it was between Marcus Ericsson (motorsport), Henrick von Eckermann (equestrian) and Nils van der Poel (skating). Ericsson for his historic Indy 500 victory, von Eckermann for double World Cup gold and van der Poel for double Olympic gold, world record and World Cup gold.
With minutes to go, Marcus Ericsson was also sent off, which meant that Henrik von Eckermann and Nils van der Poel settled for the prize. The winner was finally the skating star Nils van der Poel.
– Highly anticipated winner, a big favourite. He was the big king of the gala, says TV4 Sport’s Maud Bernhagen.
It was a grand slam for the 26-year-old who took home three prizes during the gala. In addition to the Jerring Prize, he also won “Male Athlete of the Year” and “Performance of the Year”. See when the skater was celebrated at home in Trollhättan after double Olympic gold and world records below:
