The growth of the cormorant colony is worrying, as the droppings from nesting cormorants are killing trees on the small island in the pond where the birds live. Near the island, the municipality has invested in a romantic headland.

— But it looks very sad when almost a third of the trees out on the island are dying, says municipal councilor Andreas Schönström (S) to South Sweden.

There are various methods to combat cormorants, but protective hunting is not an option. Disturbing sounds don’t work in urban environments either, so it now leans towards a kind of scarecrow in the form of balloons with eyes on them.
