Six teenagers kidnapped in the central Mexican state of Zacatecas have been confirmed dead.
The six victims – aged 14-18 – were found on Wednesday and were later identified by relatives. The group was kidnapped on Sunday, according to high-ranking state official Rodrigo Reyes.
The teenagers were taken by an armed group when they came from a party. According to Reyes, local police and military used, among other things, three helicopters in the search for the kidnapped.
A seventh teenager was found alive, but with skull fractures.
Two people have been arrested in the city of Villanueva, suspected of being involved in the kidnapping. The military has carried out operations against criminal groups in the state after the kidnapping, Reyes said without going into detail about the operations in an interview with the Milenio media company.
No one in the group is said to have connections to the powerful criminal drug cartels Sinaloa and Jalisco nueva generación, which are fighting for control of, among other things, the sale and transport of narcotics in the region.
