SIU investigating death of man in Brantford

The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a 59-year-old man involved in an interaction with Brantford police later died in hospital.

A news release issued by the SIU on Friday said a man was involved in an interaction with police on May 30 when police were asked to assist paramedics with a medical call at a home in the area of ​​Buffalo and West streets.

The man died in hospital after surgery on July 2.

“The SIU has invoked its mandate to determine whether that May interaction between police and the man contributed to his death,” the release said.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. The post-mortem was done Friday in Toronto.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police officers that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
