SIU investigates after person suffers serious injuries in Simcoe collision

The province’s Special Investigation Unit is investigating police involvement after a person was injured in a collision on Queen Street North in Simcoe on Wednesday morning.

Norfolk OPP officers attempted to stop a vehicle at about 8 am at which time the driver of the vehicle fled, West Region OPP said on social media. The vehicle then collided with another vehicle, seriously injuring an occupant in the second vehicle.

The SIU has invoked its mandate and is now investigating the incident.

Several streets in the area were closed for most of the day.

Some streets have since reopened but Queen Street North, between Cedar and Union streets, remain closed as of Wednesday evening.

The SIU is a civilian agency that probes cases of serious injury, death, police gunfire and allegations of sexual assault involving officers.
