Sir Bobby Charlton is dead, the BBC reports.
The English football icon was 86 years old.
“We want to thank everyone who showed concern and love for him,” the family writes in a statement.
Charlton is regarded as one of the greatest English players of all time. He scored 249 goals for Manchester United and won the World Cup with England in 1966.
“He will always be remembered as one of football’s giants,” Manchester United wrote in a statement.
