French-British singer and actress Jane Birkin is dead, French media reports. She was born in Great Britain where she later became part of “The Swinging London”. Birkin also had a small role in Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1966 film Blow-up.

Jane Birkin is best known as a singer and for the controversial song “Je t’aime… moi non plus” which she recorded with her then partner Serge Gainsbourg.

The song was banned in several countries due to its sexual content.

– There is a lot of erotic moaning in this song, says culture journalist Ronny Svensson.

– It was shocking and alluring in every possible way.

“Became even more enticing”

Despite several countries stopping the song, it became a big hit in several places around the world.

– On the album covers in France it was written that you should not listen to it if you were not over 21 years old. It was stopped by the BBC and in Portugal, Spain, Brazil and pretty much everywhere. It just became even more attractive to people, says Ronny Svensson.

Jane Birkin also appeared in films such as “Death on the Nile” and “The Beautiful Satmara”. Together with The Soundtrack of Our Lives, she sang the song “Midnight Children” which was released on the Swedish rock band’s album “Origin Vol. 1” in 2004.

On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron went out and paid tribute to her. “Jane Birkin was a French icon. A complete artist,” he writes on Twitter.

Jane Birkin was 76 years old.
