For two weeks now, thousands of Internet users have been wandering around, their souls in torment: Coco.gg, also called Cocoland, has closed its doors after more than twenty years of “good and loyal service” (see our article). Created in 2003, this anonymous chat presented itself as a social network allowing people to meet people by chatting with other users in public rooms, in “private rooms” and by private message. It was also possible to activate your webcam to send photos or chat live, always in public or in private, to share other files, such as videos or music, and to chat via your microphone in voice rooms.
The platform was particularly appreciated for its simplicity and anonymity, since no registration, email or phone was required to use it. But the Internet has a dark side, and Coco was no exception. The site was at the heart of many legal cases, sometimes involving homophobic attacks, drug trafficking, child prostitution and pedophilia (see our article). But despite this sad reputation, many users are looking for a replacement. Here is a quick overview of the platforms that could take over!
Coco’s replacement: which platforms can take over?
In recent days, searches for “coco chat alternative” and “coco replacement” have exploded on search engines and forums – including that of Comment ça marche. Internet users are looking for an alternative to turn to. Especially since Omegle, which offered a similar principle – and which was just as problematic – also closed its doors last November (see our article).
Aficionados can turn to chaat.fr, which takes up the principle of anonymity of Coco. No need to register, you just have to enter your nickname, your age, your gender and possibly your city. The site offers many chat rooms on various and varied subjects. The main ones are “Chat”, “Between teens”, “Between girls” and “Charm”. There is of course the possibility of switching to private discussion for more privacy. Be careful, some users complain about aggressive moderation, while paradoxically the site is home to many fake profiles intended for scams.
In the same genre, there is net-tchat.info. Again, little information is required to participate (username, age, gender, country, department). You have to select the rooms that interest you and then enter the platform. Among the rooms offered, we find the charm room (for anyone looking for a friendly relationship), the sex room (for those looking for a romantic relationship or a one-night stand), the help room (to ask for help or ask questions), the 40anset+ room, the webcam room (for those who want to chat with audio and video), as well as the entremecs and entrefilles rooms (for any LGBTQ+ user). It should be noted that the interface is aging and not very attractive.
For his part, chat-fr.org is one of the oldest virtual communities in France, since the site was launched in 2001. Online chat takes place in chat rooms by age group (tens, twenties, thirties, forties, fifties), by theme (meetings, sex, computers, music, video games, quizzes, motus, scrabble, 1000 bornes, …), by region (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Nice …) or by country (Belgium, Switzerland, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia). To connect, simply enter a nickname. It is completely free and without registration. It is also possible to become a member to go further, and thus create your profile, publish your photos, share videos, create groups, propose events and send private messages.
There is also Discussa chat without mandatory registration. In addition to the usual chat rooms, there are several nice functions such as quizzes, private messages, the possibility of chatting by webcam, etc.
We can also cite Chatbycam.netmore geared towards “romantic” encounters. Registration is required, but it requires the minimum of information. To converse via webcam, there is again a wide range of chat rooms, from general discussions to more specific themes. You can also create your own private rooms to converse with your friends or meet new people who share the same interests.
Afterwards, for those who agree to submit their personal data (necessary to feed the algorithms) and are looking for romantic or sexual relationships, traditional dating sites do their job perfectly. Today, you can find absolutely everything: classics, like Tinder and Badoo, but also more specific ones, reserved for geeks, only for believers of certain religions, for those wanting extramarital encounters, to find a partner with the same political opinions, and even reserved for redheads and micro-penises!
