Simone Veil appears on the 10 centime coins. A survivor of Auschwitz, she is a figure in European politics and the fight for women’s rights. And this, while abortion has just been included in the Constitution.
On the 20 cent coins, it is Joséphine Baker, artist, resistance fighter, feminist, anti-racist and first black woman to enter the Pantheon three years ago. Finally, on the 50 cents, there is the scientist Marie Curie, the only woman to date to have received two Nobel Prizes.
Each minted euro coin has a European side, the reverse, and a national side, the face, which can only be changed every fifteen years. The new French euro coins will be put into circulation this summer.
