Simcoe Chamber honors businesses, individuals at awards gala

A Port Dover resident who has worked to help Ukrainian refugees settle in Norfolk County has been named this year’s citizen of the year by the Simcoe & District Chamber of Commerce.

Jennifer Rodger started a campaign last November by creating the Norfolk Support for Ukrainian Refugees site on Facebook. She and other members of the community have raised thousands of dollars as well as receiving goods and services to help more than 30 Ukrainian families who are settling in Norfolk.

Rodger was one of several individuals and businesses recognized by the chamber at the annual Business Achievement Awards Gala held on Thursday at Capitol 33 in Delhi.

“Each year, our chamber celebrates outstanding contributions to our community through our awards gala,” Simcoe & District Chamber of Commerce President Catherine Akins said in a release. “This event is the highlight of our year.

“We are excited to share the news of local companies and organizations who were nominated by our community and were presented with awards this evening.”

  • 100 Women Who Care Norfolk and 100 Norfolk Men Who Give a Damn Good Redden Klosler Award for Outstanding Community Service (tie)
  • Kim Dziegiel – The Permit Shoppe — Venture Norfolk Entrepreneur of the Year Award
  • Food Basics – Simcoe NACL Inclusive Employer Award
  • Jaxon Kazakevicius Fanshawe College Youth Entrepreneur Award
  • Lighthouse Festival Theatre, Port Dover —Norfolk County Outstanding Tourism Award.
