Ter Schure and Fransen already named Bangma and Bos the big favorites for the world title in advance, with themselves as a close second. They fulfilled that role: Ter Schure and Fransen set the second fastest time at both measuring points en route in the 28-kilometre time trial; Bangma and Bos eventually finished with a half minute lead.
