Silo is Snowpiercer underground

If you like Snowpiercer’s exciting end-times concept and are impatiently waiting for the start of season 4, you should mark May 5, 2023 in your calendar now. Then an ideal series replacement appears in the stream. The new post-apocalyptic sci-fi series Silo is basically the vertical version of Snowpiercer – and she already looks fantastic.

The sci-fi series Silo recreates an underground society in the post-apocalypse

In the world of Silo, the surface of the earth has been uninhabitable for centuries. A single breath would kill you instantly. The last 10,000 surviving people therefore live in one 144-storey deep concrete colossus underground. In order for this underground society to exist, there are strict rules and regulations in place.

When one day the previous sheriff leaves the silo for seemingly inexplicable reasons and thus chooses suicide, Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson), a technician from the lowest levels, is appointed as his successor.

The trailer for Silo gives you more insights into the concrete dystopia:

Despite all resistance, Juliette accepts the new task. Because she wants to find out the truth about the mysterious processes in the silo – and takes on powerful people in the judicial and IT departments.

Silo is an adaptation of Hugh Howey’s trilogy of novels of the same name. The creative mind behind the series is Justified creator Graham Yost. The cast includes Dune star Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Robbins (The Condemned), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Common (Hell on Wheels) and Avi Nash (The Walking Dead).

Science fiction dystopia in a small space: These are the parallels between Silo and Snowpiercer

The series Snowpiercer as well as the previously released feature film created a fascinating science fiction dystopia in a confined space. While the entire planet has become an uninhabitable desert of ice, the last remnant of humanity is in a hundreds of wagons long train, the Snowpiercer, in which a strict class society has formed. In Silo, this concept is now moved from the horizontal to the vertical (and underground).

In the bottom floors of the silo, the poorest people live in adverse conditions. Day after day they work hard to ensure the maintenance of the silo infrastructure. On the upper floors, in contrast, the life of the “upper class” is much more comfortable.

However, the socially critical aspect of Silo is not the only parallel to the Snowpiercer series. Because in both science fiction projects, the focus is on a person from the lower class who takes on the role of an investigator and Crimes like conspiracies within class society gets to the bottom.
