The Monday night of the European Championships in Rome should have been a big moment for Finnish general athletes. Everything else.
Opening the medal account was missed on the fourth day of the Games Silja Kosonen reserve when the pole vaulter Wilma Murto and hurdler Top Raitanen had failed in their respective sports. Elina Lampela had, on the other hand, succeeded perfectly in his fourth place in the pole vault.
After the opening round, Kosonen was close to at least a medal for a long time. However, the end result was a bitter fourth place.
Before Koso, France threw for the bronze Rose Logo with a record of 72.68. Kosonen’s best was 72.06.
Shortly after the final competition, word spread that Finland suspected that the French medal throw had been overstepped. The Finnish team’s moukari sport manager Kalle Lehmusvuoren however, Finland did not protest.
Kosose is very familiar with Loga from youth competitions. Kosonen celebrated both the junior WC and EC gold so that Loga was second in the race.
Loga is now the one of the duo who was the first to reach the medals in the adult competition.
On the fourth lap, Loga passed Kosonen for second. After that, a Polish sports legend Anita Wlodarczyk passed both of them to second place.
The home crowd’s favorite, Italy, won the championship Sara Fantini (74,18).
Still the best of the value race
In any case, Kosonen’s ranking is Finland’s best competition ranking of all time in women’s moukari. Kosonen had previously reached fifth place both in the European Championships and the World Championships.
With her medal, Kosose could have become the youngest Finnish woman ever to win an EC medal. The winner of the 3,000-meter European championship exactly 50 years ago Nina Holmen may still hold that title.
Kosonen was naturally disappointed by the bitter ranking. However, the encouraging words of the racing partners improved the mood.
– It’s better than last time. One investment at a time. I’m proud, but it’s still a bit sad.
Kosonen’s series was even. He threw at least 70 meters four times.
– It feels like you can throw much further. If you could get the start of the throw right, you could get more meters, Kosonen told about his technique problem.
