Silja Kosonen received two medals in the opening competition of the hammer throwers’ Tour de Hammer tour in Vantaa. One came from a race win and the other from a field record.

Scoundrel thrower Silja Kosonen opened the Tour de Hammer with a top series. The first two throws were 69.70 and 69.79, but after that he crossed 70 meters four times and on his sixth throw was no less than 72.81.

Kosonen would have won the competition with every throw, because he came second Suvi Koskinen threw 67.38 and came third Krista Tervo 63.99. He won the men’s race Aaron Kangas 72.49 with a carried throw.

– I don’t know the exact statistics, but I would guess that it is the best series of my life, said the satisfied winner.

Kosonen returned last night between Friday and Saturday from the camp in Tenerife, and after 22 hours of traveling he hasn’t felt sharp. However, he knew he was in good shape.

– It’s good to know that you can fly even when you’re tired. It promises very well if you can make such a result at this point, Kosonen smiled.

The 72.81 thrown in Vantaa in inclement weather is Kosonen’s second best result of all time and 59 cents better than his best result last summer. Kosonen’s record of 73.43 is from June 2021.

Last fall, Kosonen was sick a lot, but has otherwise been able to train well for this season. The test results have improved and the overall picture has been better than ever. The goals for the coming summer are completely clear to him.

– At least the youth EC gold, a better ranking than last year and a record in the World Championships, Kosonen, who finished seventh in Eugene and is the reigning youth European champion, said without a moment’s thought.

– I would like to make that record. It wasn’t far off now either, and yet this was only the first race.

My own or Finland’s record?

– Both, Kosonen said convincingly.
