VAASA.
Until a moment ago, it seemed that not Silja Kososena there is no turning back in the medal fight at the Paris Olympics. Canada’s Camryn Rogers and the United States Brooke Andersen, DeAnna Price, Janee’ Cash register have formed a fierce foursome since the beginning of the season.
This week, however, the US championships took a dramatic turn. Andersen and Kassanavoid, from the USA’s tough trio, failed to qualify and are thus out of the race in Paris.
Andersen is the world champion from a couple of years ago. Kassanavoid, on the other hand, won the World Championship runner-up from last summer.
When you also take into account that the reigning Olympic champion Price has been fluctuating in the previous prestigious competitions, the settings of the Paris moukari competition fluctuated in one fell swoop.
– The results were certainly surprising, because both have made such a strong result at the beginning of the year. Sometimes things don’t go as you would like. Of course it’s sad for them, Silja Kosonen reflects.
– Maybe this will change the starting point for Paris. First there were four really strong medal candidates. Of course, there are still medal candidates, but they were such that even on a certain day there will be 75, says Kosonen.
To the medal fight
Last year’s World Cup winner and equally confident Camryn Rogers of Canada is the clear favorite, but otherwise the medal pile is now spread out.
Based on this moment, the winner of the USA’s qualifiers might fight for the other medals Annette EchikunwokePrice, the recent European champion Sara Fantini (ITA), a young Chinese Zhao JiePoland’s moocher legend Anita Włodarczyk and Silja Kosonen.
At the European Championships in Rome, Kosonen finished fourth and achieved the best competition ranking of his career, even though he had full chances for a medal.
Kosonen has been in fairly good shape all summer. The 21-year-old woman has flown at least 71 meters in six races this season.
At his best, he has approached his last year’s record of 74.19 with a result of 73.97.
On Sunday, the winning score of 72.65 was a continuation of the consistent performances of the early season.
– Yes, the possibilities improved a bit. I still have to train hard so that I don’t start celebrating anything. Yes, you can throw hard there. The whole summer has been saved for the Olympics to have a new entry. That would be cool.
Kosonen believes that there are a couple of meters more in stock for this summer.
– Hopefully at least 75 meters could be thrown. There is a month to hone the new technique. If you could make it so that you could succeed even with hard throws.
