Silberbauer returns to Galgenwaard together with Advocaat

UTRECHT – Michael Silberbauer and Dick Advocaat have been added to the technical staff of the first team of FC Utrecht. With immediate effect, Silberbauer will act as assistant coach and Dick Advocaat will act as a sounding board for head coach Rick Kruys.

Former Danish international and former FC Utrecht captain Michael Silberbauer played for the club from the Domstad between 2008 and 2011, where he played 113 official matches. After his active football career, the Dane gained experience as an assistant coach at FC Biel-Biene, FC Luzern, Midtjylland under 19 and FC Basel. In addition, Silberbauer was the head coach of Pacific FC in Vancouver, Canada.

Dick Advocaat has many years of experience as a trainer in the national and international fields. He led FC Utrecht to European Football in 2018/2019 by beating Vitesse in the play-offs. In the same position, Lawyer was employed by Fenerbahçe, PSV, Zenit Saint Petersburg, AZ, Glasgow Rangers, Sparta Rotterdam and Feyenoord. In addition, Advocaat has been national coach for several periods, including the Dutch national team. As a player, Advocaat played 39 games for FC Utrecht, which was in the period 1983-1984.

“We are pleased to have the staff complete again by adding two men who know the club well,” said Technical Director Jordy Zuidam. “Michael is a true club man, a leader with a winning mentality. He can transfer his experience to the group. In addition, he has developed in recent years as a data expert, making him a welcome addition to the coaching staff .” Zuidam will tell more about current developments at FC Utrecht on Friday, when he takes a seat in the RTV Utrecht program Een Berg Sport.

Zuidam about Dick Advocaat’s role as a sounding board for Rick Kruys: “Dick obviously knows the club and has worked with Rick before. It was an explicit wish of Rick to add Dick to the staff, so that he could have an extra opportunity to has sounding boards. We are pleased that Dick is standing by with his many years of experience.”

Rick Kruys will sit on the bench as head coach until the end of the current season, with Sander Keller and Michael Silberbauer by his side. Kruys took charge earlier this week after the resignation of head coach René Hake.
